PARIS 2024 Olympic Disaster
July 26, 2024 is a date that every sports fan has marked in his diary. It marks the comeback of one of the world's most watched competitions, the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. From July 26 to August 11, the 33rd Olympiad in modern history takes place, and from August 28 to September 8, the 17th Paralympic Games.
It's a huge celebration, set in a historic backdrop that's well known to the French: Paris! For a number of years now, the City of Light has been undergoing a thorough transformation to ensure that it is equal to the occasion and that athletes from all over the world are able to shine. But once the last international stars have left, the last medals have been awarded and the cameras have been switched off, what will be left of the Olympic Games? The question is all the more worrying in that, from Atlanta to Rio, Athens to Montreal, there are numerous examples of poor post-Olympic management.
Colossal debts, disproportionate infrastructures, ecological disaster... the factors are many, but they all lead to the same point: that of Olympic disaster. Can the post-Olympic era envisioned by the Paris 2024 organizers translate into a brighter future? That's what we're going to find out today in this new episode of Looking 4.

Historically, great cities are often founded by great leaders - Alexandria by Alexander the Great, Baghdad by Al-Mansur, or St Petersberg by Peter the Great. But in the 21st century, it may be corporations, rather than individual leaders, who found the cities of the future. Leading the charge is Japanese auto-giant Toyota. Anyone who thinks we can find the origin of the Universe with a telescope is an idiot. Humans are locked into this belief that everything has to have a beginning. The possibility exists that the universe has always been there. We need to accept that we will never know how the universe came to be. It's interesting to learn more about space and explore our solar system and beyond, but it's not going to change the fact that humans are just a temporary occurrence on a presently habitable planet. We will eventually die off, and the universe will continue to exist, changing ever so slightly with every interaction of the elements within it. Enjoy life while it lasts.

Dear GAWD, these NYC skyscraper projects create a whole new category of 'un-inspired.' It' as if the Architects & Developers all watched 'The Expanse, or a Star Trek movie & just pulled shite from those contrived city-scapes of NYC & SF. But my faves! You think the Millenium Tower in SF has problems, can't wait to hear about the Affirmation Tower's structural fun in the coming years. But, FFS, Gensler, once again, out for attention, takes the cake! The Fifth Tower is really gonna make Affirmation & Millenium Towers look like structural marvels - it was Super Funny to see how they referenced the Citicorp Tower - just check out that structural engineering disaster which was averted only after a Freshman STUDENT persisted in getting the Structural Engineer to review the design...lo & behold, a collapse was averted at great cost & having to evacuate workers in the Tower during remediation.

You know, as a frenchman myself I wasn't sure about Paris Olympic game. I thought it would be a disaster. But in the end, I think it might turn out to be one of the most sustainable Olympic Games ever held. As said in the video, 95% of the infrastructures are either temporary or already existing and refitted. Also, the idea of using the Seine for the opening ceremony, all across ce city, instead of holding It inside a stadium will be marvelous. I'm now confident everyone will be pleasantly surprised! :)

Every major event should do what Dubai did with the Expo and Qatar with their stadiums. Become multipurpose beyond the event itself. Expo turned into a housing, shopping and college complex. With Qatar they will turn some of the stadiums to hospitals, malls and schools. Basically a shapeshifting building.
